PM Modi To Begin Two-Day Netherlands Visit This Week

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the Netherlands later this week for a two-day visit aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and formalising a strategic partnership between the two countries.

According to the Dutch government, PM Modi will meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at Huis ten Bosch Palace on May 16.

A luncheon will also take place for the Indian delegation in the presence of Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen, senior business leaders and representatives from academia and the cultural sector.

During the visit, PM Modi will likely hold talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten at the Catshuis, the official residence of the Dutch premier. The two leaders will also attend a business roundtable alongside CEOs from major Dutch companies.

Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma will host the interaction.

A cooperation agreement linked to the new strategic partnership is expected to be signed in the presence of both Prime Ministers.

Discussions during the visit are likely to cover areas such as defence, security, advanced technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, water management and economic collaboration.

The leaders will likely exchange views on developments in West Asia and the Ukraine conflict.

Later in the evening, PM Modi will participate in a delegation-level meeting followed by an informal dinner hosted by Prime Minister Jetten.

The visit, concluding on May 17, will be PM Modi’s second trip to the Netherlands after his 2017 visit.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the engagement would help strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Netherlands remains one of India’s largest trading partners in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching USD 27.8 billion in 2024-25, while Dutch investments in India have reached USD 55.6 billion cumulatively.
