PM Modi To Begin Europe Tour With France, Slovakia Visits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a multi-country European tour on Saturday, with France and Slovakia featuring on his itinerary.

Strengthening strategic cooperation, particularly in defence and security, is likely to be among the major objectives of the visit.

During his stay in Nice, PM Modi will hold extensive talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on June 14.

The discussions will focus on a broad range of bilateral matters.

Both leaders will also assess progress made across various areas of cooperation between the two countries.

PM Modi and President Macron are likely to jointly launch the ‘Bharat Innovates’ initiative. The platform will bring together start-ups, innovators, and venture capital representatives from India, France, and several other nations.

The event is being held as part of the India-France Year of Innovation. It will likely strengthen collaboration in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship between the participating countries.

After concluding engagements in France, the Prime Minister will travel to Slovakia for a state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Robert Fico.

The trip carries special significance as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its emergence as an independent nation in 1993.

PM Modi and PM Fico will discuss opportunities to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, transport, manufacturing, and industrial development.

The Prime Minister is also likely to meet the Slovak President, Peter Pellegrini, during his stay.

The Prime Minister will subsequently return to France to attend the G7 Summit in Evian on June 16 and 17.

The final phase of the tour will take PM Modi to Paris, where he will participate in the VivaTech Summit, one of Europe’s foremost technology and start-up events. He will likely hold additional bilateral engagements and interact with the Indian diaspora.

The visit will likely reinforce India’s relationships with France and Slovakia while highlighting the country’s growing influence in international affairs and its role in advancing the interests of the Global South.
