Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commence his Lok Sabha election campaign in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow with a grand rally in Meerut, where the BJP has nominated actor Arun Govil, known for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic TV serial ‘Ramayan’, as its candidate.
Sources reveal that alongside Arun Govil, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary, who recently joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), will also grace the stage with the Prime Minister.
Arun Govil’s portrayal of Lord Ram earned him widespread acclaim, making him a household name across the country. A BJP leader noted, “Following the consecration of Lord Ram’s idol at the temple in Ayodhya, PM Modi is launching his election campaign from Arun Govil’s constituency, a figure held in high regard for his portrayal of Lord Ram.”

The responsibility of coordinating the Prime Minister’s rally has been entrusted to the party’s state General Secretary, Anoop Gupta. It is anticipated that people from nearby Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana Lok Sabha constituencies will also flock to the rally on Sunday.
Senior BJP leader and MLC Govind Narayan Shukla emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Modi’s Meerut rally in western Uttar Pradesh, expressing confidence that the party and its allies would secure victory in all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
“This marks the commencement of the 2024 elections in Uttar Pradesh,” stated a BJP leader. “Party workers consider it a privilege that the Prime Minister has chosen Meerut to kick-start the election campaign.” According to RLD spokesperson Atir Rizvi, party chief Jayant Chaudhary will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with BJP leaders at the rally.

Leaders from both the BJP and RLD underscored that the rally would address key issues such as conferring Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, concerns of sugarcane growers and farmers, and the development of Western Uttar Pradesh.
The heightened security measures ahead of the Prime Minister’s rally include a ban on flying drones, kites, or balloons within an eight-kilometer radius from the venue, as mandated by Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Uttar Pradesh will witness polling in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections. Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Kairana Lok Sabha constituencies are slated for the first phase on April 19, while Meerut and Baghpat will go to polls in the second phase on April 26.
