As per the provisional schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely participate in the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and deliver his address on 26 September.
This year’s meeting marks a significant milestone for the UN, which celebrates its 80th anniversary.
The General Assembly has chosen the theme ‘Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights’.
A commemorative high-level meeting will take place on 22 September to mark the anniversary, followed the next day by the opening of the regular high-level debates.
As is customary, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will deliver the first address, followed by US President Donald Trump.
Notably absent from the list of participants are Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
However, scheduled speakers include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the morning session on 26 September, beginning at 9 AM New York time (6:30 PM in India), the PM’s speech will follow those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Later in the same session, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay will deliver their addresses.
The final speaker of the morning is listed as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister – likely Muhammad Yunus, who currently styles himself as Chief Adviser to the caretaker government formed after the removal of the democratically elected leader, Sheikh Hasina.
The Prime Minister’s forthcoming speech will be his seventh appearance at a UNGA high-level session.
