Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, will host Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally with the Indian diaspora on Sunday. The venue has hosted legendary performances by entertainers like Elvis Presley, The Jacksons, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen.
Last week, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also held a campaign rally at the arena.
Formally known as Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, it was built in 1972 and renovated in 2017 with a unique design of 4,700 brushed aluminum fins. Located 50 kilometers from Manhattan, it has a capacity of 16,500, which can increase for large events. It has been home to the Long Island Nets basketball team and previously the New York Islanders hockey team.
The venue is now part of a controversial proposal by the Las Vegas Sands to transform it into a casino resort. Originally built on a former military base, Nassau Coliseum has also hosted performers like the Beach Boys, Frank Zappa, and Pink Floyd.
