PM Modi Thanks Albanese For Birthday Wishes; Calls For Stronger India-Australia Ties

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday wished PM Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday, calling him a ‘friend’ and praising the strong ties between India and Australia.

In a video message, Albanese highlighted the ‘incredible contribution’ of the Indian community in Australia and expressed hope of meeting PM Modi soon.

“Happy Birthday to my friend Prime Minister Modi. Australia is proud to share such a strong friendship with India, and we’re grateful every day for the incredible contribution of the Indian community here in Australia. I look forward to catching up with you soon, Prime Minister, and many more years of friendship and progress,” Albanese said.

PM Modi Responds with Gratitude

PM Modi thanked his Australian counterpart for the wishes and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Thank you, my friend, Prime Minister Albanese for your kind wishes. I look forward to further strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our close people-to-people ties.”

Under Albanese, Australia has placed India at the centre of its Indo-Pacific strategy, deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Both leaders have worked to expand cooperation across defence, trade, renewable energy, education, mobility, science and technology, and cultural exchange.

Earlier this year, PM Modi congratulated Albanese on the Australian Labour Party’s electoral victory and invited him to the Annual Summit. The two leaders held the second Australia-India Annual Summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.

The Rio meeting marked the run-up to the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Both leaders acknowledged the progress achieved across multiple sectors and reiterated their resolve to take the partnership to greater heights, with special emphasis on people-to-people ties that remain central to the relationship.
