PM Modi Targets TMC In Asansol, Promises New Development Era In Bengal After May 4

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a strong attack on the Trinamool Congress government during an election rally in Asansol, alleging that syndicates and mafias linked to the ruling party were looting the state’s resources. He warned that those responsible would be held accountable after the election results on May 4.

Addressing his second rally in the region, PM Modi blamed successive governments, from the Congress to the Trinamool Congress, for West Bengal’s decline from economic prosperity to deprivation. He asserted that governance by the Bharatiya Janata Party is the only way to address the state’s challenges.

The Prime Minister highlighted that West Bengal, once a major contributor to India’s economy after Independence, has seen a significant drop in its share. He noted that the state’s contribution has declined from Rs 12 out of every Rs 100 to Rs 5.5.

Accusing the government led by Mamata Banerjee of pushing the state backwards, Prime Minister Modi said Bengal’s progress depends on freedom from the ruling party. He added that while the rest of the country is advancing rapidly, the state is being held back.

Recalling the industrial legacy of Asansol and Durgapur, he said the region was once a thriving hub for industries ranging from steel and aluminium to railways and paper, but is now witnessing an exodus of industries and workforce.

Development Pitch and Political Offensive

PM Modi alleged that coal mines in the region, once central to India’s growth, have been exploited by mafias linked to the ruling party. He urged voters to make informed choices, expressing confidence that people now seek a performing government with a proven track record.

Highlighting central initiatives, he pointed to the launch of two Vande Bharat and two Amrit Bharat projects, along with a direct Asansol-Bokaro rail link, promising further development.

On a campaign tour in poll-bound West Bengal, PM described the current administration as ineffective and predicted its removal, also citing recent unrest in Malda as indicative of governance failure.
