PM Modi Voices Concern Over Alleged Drone Attack On Putin’s Residence; Urges Diplomacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence had been targeted, stressing that diplomatic engagement provides the most viable avenue to end hostilities and achieve peace.

His statement came in the wake of accusations by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who alleged that Ukraine launched unmanned aerial vehicles at the state residence in the Novgorod Region on the night of December 28-29.

Condemning any actions that could undermine diplomatic efforts, PM Modi emphasised the importance of remaining focused on negotiations and peaceful conflict resolution.

According to Lavrov, the Ukrainian attack involved 91 long-range UAVs, all of which Russian air defences intercepted and destroyed.

He reported no casualties or structural damage, noting that the incident occurred amid ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump indicated that he had held a ‘very productive’ telephonic discussion with President Putin prior to meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida.

The conversation focused on the latest draft of a peace plan to end the Ukraine conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the discussion.

Trump described the meeting with Zelensky as ‘terrific’, noting that both sides had ‘made a lot of progress on ending that war’.

He highlighted that discussions covered nearly every subject related to the conflict and emphasised that negotiations were ‘very close’ to a resolution.

India Reiterates Call for Sustained Dialogue

PM Modi reiterated that sustained diplomatic efforts remain critical for the resolution of hostilities. He called on all stakeholders to prioritise dialogue over conflict and avoid actions that could escalate tensions or jeopardise ongoing negotiations.

International observers have also underlined the importance of measured responses and continued engagement to achieve a peaceful settlement.

PM Modi’s statement further aligns with India’s broader foreign policy approach of supporting dialogue, stability, and peaceful resolution of international disputes.

The Prime Minister’s call for diplomacy reinforces the need for continued engagement between Russia, Ukraine, and the international community.
