PM Modi Sets Out On Three-Nation Tour To Boost Strategic Ties With Jordan, Ethiopia & Oman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday commenced a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, where he will hold a series of high-level meetings aimed at enhancing strategic partnerships and strengthening India’s bilateral relations.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said that India shares deep-rooted civilisational links as well as strong contemporary relations with all three countries.

First Leg: Jordan Visit

PM Modi’s first stop is Jordan, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein.

The visit coincides with the completion of 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan, marking an important milestone in bilateral ties.

During his stay in Amman, the Prime Minister will hold detailed discussions with King Abdullah II, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

He is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community, whom he acknowledged for their significant contribution to strengthening India–Jordan relations.

Ethiopia: Strengthening Africa Engagement

From Jordan, PM Modi will travel to Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

This visit assumes added significance as it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ethiopia since 2011.

Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, is also the headquarters of the African Union.

PM Modi highlighted that India admitted the African Union as a permanent G20 member during its 2023 G20 Presidency, underscoring its commitment to amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage.

In Ethiopia, the Prime Minister will hold comprehensive talks with PM Abiy Ahmed Ali, address a joint session of Parliament, and interact with the Indian diaspora.

He is expected to share India’s democratic journey as the ‘Mother of Democracy’ and underline the importance of India–Ethiopia cooperation for the Global South.

Final Leg: Visit to Oman

The final leg of PM Modi’s tour will take him to Oman, marking his second visit to the country.

This year also marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman.

In Muscat, the Prime Minister will hold high-level talks with the Sultan of Oman, focusing on strengthening the Strategic Partnership and expanding commercial and economic cooperation.

He will also address the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their vital role in Oman’s development and in deepening India–Oman relations.

The three-nation visit reflects India’s continued focus on diplomacy, strategic engagement, and people-to-people ties across West Asia and Africa.
