In the midst of escalating tensions between the ruling TMC and the BJP following an attack on an NIA team in Purba Medinipur district during a raid related to a blast case, PM Narendra Modi is set to hold a public rally in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal as part of his pre-election campaign.
Scheduled to address the rally around 2 pm on Sunday in Jalpaiguri’s Dhupguri, Prime Minister Modi’s visit is marked by extensive preparations underway. Prior to his arrival, PM Modi took to his official social media handle, stating, “This afternoon, I will be among the people of Jalpaiguri to address a rally. There is outstanding support in @BJP4Bengal’s favor. The people of West Bengal are tired of TMC’s corruption and poor governance. Only BJP can fulfill their dreams.”
This visit to North Bengal marks PM Modi’s first since the region was struck by a severe storm, causing widespread devastation. PM Modi will headline the campaign event in support of BJP’s sitting MP and Lok Sabha candidate Jayanta Kumar Roy.
The Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for polling in the first phase of the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections on April 19. Earlier, PM Modi addressed a rally in Cooch Behar district, marking his first public meeting in Bengal since the announcement of the election schedule.
While various parties including TMC, BJP, Left, and Congress are contesting in Bengal, the focus remains on the competition between the ruling party and the principal opposition force in the state.

With Bengal’s 42 parliamentary seats spread across all seven phases of polling, PM Modi’s rallies hold significant importance in shaping the electoral landscape. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, TMC won 22 seats, while BJP made significant gains with 18 seats. The Congress secured only two seats.
In addition to Jalpaiguri in North Bengal, PM Modi will also lead rallies in Nawada, Bihar, and Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. His campaign in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh will commence with a roadshow in Jabalpur, covering a 1.2-km route from Shaheed Bhagat Singh crossing to Adi Shankaracharya crossing in Gorakhpur locality, as per the BJP’s city president Prabhat Sahu.
