PM Modi Says Amazon’s $48 Billion Bet Reflects Confidence In India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed Amazon’s record investment commitment of $48 billion in India, stating that the move would create substantial opportunities for the country’s youth and reinforce global confidence in India’s economic prospects.

The announcement followed a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy in New Delhi.

Amazon confirmed plans to invest $48 billion between 2026 and 2030 to expand and strengthen its operations across India.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A great meeting with Mr. Andy Jassy. I welcome Amazon’s record $48 billion investment in India. This will create new opportunities for our youth. At the same time, it shows the growing interest across the world to invest in India!”

Andy Jassy reaffirmed Amazon’s long-term commitment to India. He also announced an additional investment of $13 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure by 2030. This increases Amazon’s planned investment in AI and cloud technologies to more than $21 billion between 2026 and 2030.

The commitment positions the company among the largest global investors in these sectors within India.

“We came to India over a decade ago and have since been serving customers, sellers, developers, start-ups and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses,” Jassy said.

“We are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help the country achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and we are committed to being a long-term partner in India’s growth story,” he added.

Andy Jassy thanked PM Modi for his leadership and highlighted India’s growing importance in Amazon’s global strategy. He noted that Amazon continues to witness strong customer demand, particularly across its e-commerce and AWS businesses.

The company operates several businesses in India, including e-commerce, artificial intelligence, cloud services and entertainment.

Amazon expects its latest investment programme to accelerate innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and support India’s long-term development ambitions.
