Amazon on Thursday announced a $48 billion investment in India between 2026 and 2030, reaffirming its long-term confidence in the country’s growth potential.
The announcement came after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Andy Jassy reaffirmed Amazon’s long-term commitment to India. He also announced plans to invest an additional $13 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure by 2030. This raises Amazon’s total planned investment in AI and cloud capabilities to more than $21 billion during the period.
The investment makes Amazon one of the largest global investors in these sectors in India. It will expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
The expansion will give startups, businesses and government agencies access to AI chips, cloud services and advanced developer tools.
Amazon’s cumulative investment in India between 2010 and 2030 now exceeds $88 billion.
“We entered India over a decade ago. Since then, we have served customers, sellers, developers, start-ups and enterprises through our various businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses,” said Andy Jassy.
“We are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help the country achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat and remain committed to India’s growth,” he added.
Andy Jassy thanked PM Modi for his leadership and highlighted strong momentum across Amazon’s ecommerce and AWS operations.
Since entering India, Amazon has digitised 12 million small businesses and enabled over $20 billion in exports.
The company has also supported 2.8 million jobs and trained 10 million people in cloud skills.
The company now aims to support 3.8 million jobs and facilitate $80 billion in cumulative exports. It also plans to bring AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and teach AI skills to 4 million government school students.
