PM Modi Raises Udaipur Tailor’s Brutal Murder To Critique Ashok Gehlot’s Administration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Ashok Gehlot government’s handling of law and order issues during a rally in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. He cited the gruesome 2022 murder of a tailor in Udaipur as an example, highlighting the shocking nature of the crime where the victim’s throat was slit, and the act was recorded and shared online. Kanhaiya Lal, the tailor, had reportedly received threats due to his support for Nupur Sharma, a former BJP spokesperson who was dismissed by the party over her controversial comments about Prophet Muhammad.

The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the Congress-led government in Rajasthan, accusing them of misleading the people and failing to run the state efficiently. He referred to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s preoccupation with internal party conflicts, particularly the power struggle with Sachin Pilot, which almost led to the government’s collapse in 2020.

Modi mentioned that Gehlot had already “accepted defeat” and assured that BJP would not halt any public schemes but rather seek to improve them. He responded to Gehlot’s request for a guarantee that BJP would not discontinue Congress government schemes if they came to power in the upcoming elections.

Regarding the BJP’s face for the Assembly polls and the internal party rivalries in Rajasthan, Modi ruled out announcing a Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the elections, asserting that “Kamal” (the BJP’s lotus symbol) is their face and candidate.

The Prime Minister also highlighted concerns about crimes against women in Rajasthan and the alleged corruption in the state government’s job recruitment exams. He pledged to thoroughly investigate the paper leak matter and take action against those involved in corruption.

Modi’s address covered a range of political and governance issues in Rajasthan, setting the stage for the upcoming state elections.
