PM Modi Promises Lasting Peace And Development In Manipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured that the Centre would continue to support Manipur’s journey towards peace and prosperity.

He launched 19 projects worth ₹7,300 crore at the Peace Ground in Churachandpur. PM Modi said peace is the bedrock of progress, urging all communities to work with the government for unity.

Earlier than his public address, the PM reached temporary housing camps and connected with individuals driven away by ethnic unrest that unfolded in May 2023.

He noted that negotiations with different stakeholders are underway and emphasised that dialogue has repeatedly settled hostilities in the region.

Connectivity and Infrastructure Push

PM Modi underlined that Manipur’s connectivity, once a challenge, has improved since 2014. He said ₹3,700 crore has already been spent on National Highways, and another ₹8,700 crore projects are in progress.

The ₹22,000 crore Jiribam–Imphal railway line will soon link the state capital to the national network. Helicopter services from Imphal will also expand to reach remote areas.

The Prime Minister announced that more than 7,000 houses are being built for those affected by violence. The Centre has given Manipur a ₹3,000 crore special package and sanctioned an additional ₹500 crore.

He highlighted that over 60,000 homes have been built under Awas Yojana, electricity has reached lakhs of families, and piped water connections have been provided to 3.5 lakh households.

Focus on Tribal and Social Development

PM Modi emphasised tribal welfare, saying it is a top priority for his government. He said development projects have been launched in over 500 tribal villages of Manipur.

Eighteen Eklavya Model Residential Schools are under construction, and working women’s hostels are coming up at nine locations.

He added that healthcare facilities are being improved under PM-DevINE, with ₹350 crore provided for free treatment.

Projects include urban roads, drainage upgrades, IT infrastructure in Imphal, and strengthening 120 schools across 16 districts. Super-speciality healthcare will also be expanded to remote and hill districts.

Braving heavy showers, PM Modi drove 61 km from Imphal to Churachandpur in 1.5 hours, welcomed by flag-waving locals. Later, he launched ₹1,200 crore projects at Kangla Fort.
