PM Modi, President Trump Discuss West Asia Crisis, Strait Of Hormuz In Call

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a telephonic conversation on Tuesday, deliberating on the escalating situation in West Asia and underscoring the necessity of maintaining open access through the Strait of Hormuz.

The development was confirmed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor via a social media post.

The dialogue assumes significance amid intensifying hostilities in the region following the February 28 strikes conducted by the United States and Israel on Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile offensives targeting US and Israeli installations, along with allied positions across West Asia.

The ongoing conflict has heightened volatility in global markets, with energy prices reacting sharply to developments in the region.

Both leaders reiterated the importance of stability in maritime trade routes, particularly for energy transportation.

PM Modi and Trump have maintained a visible diplomatic rapport, marked by high-profile engagements and mutual endorsements. Their cooperation spans trade, defence, and broader strategic alignment between India and the United States.

Trump has also indicated plans to visit India in connection with the upcoming Quadrilateral Security Dialogue Summit.

Separately, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the crisis.

Both leaders reviewed its implications on the global economy and energy security, agreeing to sustain close coordination on shared priorities.

The US State Department reaffirmed continued collaboration, highlighting the strategic importance of bilateral engagement during evolving geopolitical challenges.
