Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday commended the Odisha government for achieving significant progress and said the state is advancing steadily under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Speaking at an event in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district, to mark two years of the state government, PM Modi noted that welfare programmes are delivering tangible benefits to citizens while strengthening economic activity and employment generation.
The Prime Minister underscored the Central Government’s strategy of promoting national development through the advancement of eastern India. He said the ‘Purvodaya’ initiative reflects the belief that the prosperity of eastern states will play a crucial role in shaping India’s overall growth trajectory.
PM Modi observed that Odisha possesses several strategic advantages, including a long coastline, abundant natural resources, strong agricultural capabilities, and a skilled young population. He stated that joint efforts by the Centre and the state government are helping convert these strengths into opportunities across multiple sectors.
Highlighting a series of development initiatives, the Prime Minister unveiled projects worth nearly ₹47,600 crore. He said the investments would improve connectivity, strengthen public services, and enhance infrastructure related to power supply, transportation, healthcare, and education across the state.
The Prime Minister noted that Odisha has attracted investment proposals amounting to nearly ₹20 lakh crore through programmes such as Utkarsh Odisha. He added that large-scale projects valued at more than ₹3.5 lakh crore are currently being implemented, reflecting growing investor confidence in the state.
Referring to Odisha’s centenary celebrations in 2036 and India’s 100th year of Independence in 2047, PM Modi said both milestones present an opportunity to accelerate development. He expressed confidence that Odisha’s continued progress would make a substantial contribution to the nation’s future.
