PM Modi, Polish PM Tusk Explore New Coopration Avenues In Defence, AI And Critical Minerals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk explored new avenues of defence cooperation, artificial intelligence (AI), critical minerals and green technologies during talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday.

The two leaders agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and emphasised the importance of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in expanding economic engagement.

They exchanged views on regional and global developments and reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based international order and reforms of global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the meeting as a new phase in the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, established in 2024.

Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Tusk and discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation across various sectors.

Tusk arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening for a three-day official visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties in defence, trade and strategic sectors. Union Minister of State Raj Bhushan Choudhary received him at the airport.

Poland’s Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domanski and a high-level business delegation accompanied Tusk.

According to the MEA, this marks his second visit to India as Polish prime minister, following his earlier visit in 2010.

After completing his engagements in the national capital, Tusk will travel to Bengaluru to meet business stakeholders, including representatives from the information technology and space sectors.

The India-Poland Business Forum is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on October 22 and Bengaluru on October 23, providing opportunities to strengthen commercial partnerships and explore new areas of investment.
