PM Modi, Polish PM Donald Tusk Condemn Terrorism; Call For Global Action

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday condemned terrorism and violent extremism. They called for coordinated international action to eliminate terrorist safe havens, dismantle infrastructure and disrupt terror financing networks.

During talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, the two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and global issues.

Their joint statement condemned the April 22, 2025, terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. They called for action against terrorist organisations, including those designated by the United Nations Security Council’s 1267 sanctions committee.

Both leaders urged the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations. They also agreed to hold a dialogue on counter-terrorism.

PM Modi and Tusk reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and called for structural reforms of the United Nations.

Poland supported India’s membership of an expanded Security Council and backed its candidature for a non-permanent seat for 2028-29.

The leaders highlighted the G20’s role in international cooperation and expressed concern over the war in Ukraine.

They called for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. They noted the conflict’s impact on global food and energy security, particularly across the Global South.

Both leaders reiterated their support for a free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific. They stressed freedom of navigation, respect for international law and peaceful dispute resolution. India invited Poland to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.

Prime Minister Modi and Tusk welcomed the first India–Visegrad Group foreign ministers’ meeting. They pledged to strengthen cooperation through the V4+India format, involving Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
