PM Modi Orders Stern Action Against Accused In Varanasi Rape Case

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Friday and immediately took stock of the recent criminal rape case that has shaken the city.

Upon landing, he received a detailed briefing from the Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate.

Calling for stringent action, PM Modi directed officials to ensure justice for the victim and to put in place strong preventive mechanisms.

“Strictest action must be taken against the accused, and such incidents must not be allowed to repeat,” Prime Minister Modi emphasized.

Authorities have already sent nine of the 23 accused to judicial custody.

The police found the victim unconscious on April 4, and she alleged that 23 individuals raped her over a span of seven days.

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s public address, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed preparations at the venue.

The CM’s presence highlighted the gravity of the crime and the administration’s readiness to respond to PM Modi’s directives.

Inauguration Of Development Projects

Reinforcing his development-first approach, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of infrastructure and welfare projects valued at over ₹3,145 crore.

These include key road and connectivity upgrades, such as a road bridge between the Varanasi Ring Road and Sarnath, flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih, and a highway underpass tunnel on NH-31 near Varanasi International Airport worth over ₹980 crore.

In a push to modernize the region’s power supply, PM Modi inaugurated two 400 KV and one 220 KV transmission substations in the Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur districts, as well as laid the foundation for more substations and distribution upgrades valued at ₹1,045 crore.

To bolster security infrastructure, he inaugurated a Transit Hostel at the Police Line, new barracks at PAC Ramnagar, and administrative buildings for multiple police stations.

Education & Sports Boost

As part of the educational upliftment agenda, PM Modi inaugurated a Government Polytechnic College in Pindra and, additionally, a government college in Barki village, along with 356 rural libraries and 100 Anganwadi centers.

Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of 77 primary schools and the construction of a new Kasturba Gandhi School building.

To promote youth sports, PM Modi announced a synthetic hockey turf with floodlights at Uday Pratap College and a mini stadium in Shivpur.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the redevelopment of Samne Ghat and Shastri Ghat on the Ganga, along with 130 rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission worth over ₹345 crore.

Prime Minister Modi unveiled projects to improve six municipal wards and install public sculptures across the city, reinforcing Varanasi’s transformation into a smart, inclusive, and vibrant cultural hub.
