PM Modi Offers Prayers At Rameswaram’s Ramanathaswamy Temple

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, inaugurated the New Pamban Rail Bridge in Rameswaram and offered prayers at the sacred Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines and a revered Hindu pilgrimage site.

His visit emphasized both infrastructure advancement and spiritual heritage.

Prayers At Ramanathaswamy Temple

Shortly after the bridge inauguration, PM Modi arrived at the Ramanathaswamy Temple, where the temple priest welcomed and garlanded him.

The temple holds deep mythological importance as it is believed to have been established and worshipped by Lord Ram before crossing the Ram Setu to rescue Sita from Lanka.

Notably, it also boasts the longest corridor among Hindu temples in India.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi had also visited the temple earlier in the day, reinforcing the spiritual significance of the occasion.

Aerial ‘Darshan’ Of Ram Setu & Surya Tilak

In a social media post shared during his return flight from Sri Lanka, PM Modi expressed gratitude for receiving a divine ‘darshan’ of Ram Setu from the air.

Coincidentally, this occurred at the same time as the ‘Surya Tilak’ ceremony in Ayodhya, a celestial event where the sun’s rays fall directly on Lord Ram’s idol.

The Prime Minister described the moment as a ‘divine coincidence’.

Inauguration Of New Pamban Bridge

Before the temple visit, PM Modi flagged off the first train to traverse the New Pamban Rail Bridge, the country’s first vertical lift sea bridge.

Stretching 2.07 kilometres across the Palk Strait, the bridge connects mainland Tamil Nadu with Rameswaram Island.

Constructed to meet modern maritime and railway demands, the bridge includes a 72.5-metre vertical lift span, allowing ships to pass beneath while maintaining rail traffic above.

A demonstration involving an Indian Coast Guard vessel and a train crossing validated the bridge’s dual-function design and structural robustness.

Public Engagement & Roadshow Ahead

Following the ceremonial and spiritual engagements, PM Modi is scheduled to hold a roadshow in a Tamil Nadu city, furthering his connection with the public and highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts in infrastructure, culture, and development across the state.

The Prime Minister’s visit combined technological progress with cultural reverence, positioning Rameswaram as both a pilgrimage centre and a hub of modern connectivity.

His activities reflected a broader strategy to blend heritage tourism with national development initiatives.
