PM Modi Offers Prayers At Prasanthi Nilayam During Sathya Sai Baba Centenary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district to pay obeisance at Prasanthi Nilayam, the ashram founded by Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

He offered prayers at the golden statue and at the Mahasamadhi, participating in rituals conducted by priests chanting Vedic hymns inside the Sai Kulwant Hall.

The visit forms a significant part of the ongoing centenary celebrations honouring the revered spiritual leader’s life and legacy.

Upon his arrival at Puttaparthi Airport, PM Modi received a warm welcome from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers Ram Mohan Naidu, G Kishan Reddy, Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, and state minister Nara Lokesh.

The centenary events commenced with a vibrant cultural programme featuring hundreds of students from institutions run by the Sathya Sai Central Trust.

Special Rituals and Godanam Ceremony

During his visit, the Prime Minister performed special pujas at Prasanthi Nilayam. As part of the centenary observances, he took part in the traditional godanam ceremony—an age-old practice of gifting cows.

PM Modi personally handed over cows to four farmers, symbolising prosperity and spiritual merit in Indian tradition.

Priests bestowed blessings upon the Prime Minister before he proceeded to participate in the main centenary function.

The celebration drew several prominent personalities, including former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and RJ Rathnakar, Managing Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.

Their presence highlighted the wide-ranging influence of Sathya Sai Baba’s spiritual teachings and philanthropic initiatives.

As part of the centenary programme, PM Modi will release a commemorative coin and a set of postage stamps dedicated to Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s life, humanitarian work, and enduring spiritual contributions.

He is also scheduled to address the gathering, underscoring the impact of Sathya Sai Baba’s message on community service, compassion, and social upliftment.

Before reaching Puttaparthi, PM Modi paid tribute to Sathya Sai Baba in a heartfelt post on X.

He reflected on his past interactions with the spiritual leader, highlighting his lifelong service and profound role in fostering spiritual awakening.

“His life and efforts towards community service remain a guiding light,” he wrote, sharing photographs from earlier meetings.
