PM Modi Offers Prayers at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, Embark Roadshow Along ‘Ram Path’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his visit to Ayodhya by paying homage at the Ram Temple, followed by a planned roadshow along the revered ‘Ram Path,’ stretching from Sugriva Fort to Lata Chowk. The route for the roadshow has been meticulously organized into 40 blocks to ensure smooth proceedings.

Before Modi’s arrival, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid his respects at the Ram Temple, setting the tone for the day’s events.

This marks Modi’s first visit to Ayodhya following the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony held at the Ram temple on January 22, where he performed Vedic rituals alongside a group of priests.

Notably, this roadshow serves as Modi’s second in Ayodhya within the past five months, the first being during the inauguration of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport on December 30, 2023.

Uttar Pradesh, a pivotal state in Indian politics with 80 Lok Sabha seats, is witnessing polling across all seven phases of the parliamentary elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has historically secured a strong majority in the state, winning the majority of seats in the previous two Lok Sabha elections.

In the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has once again nominated sitting MP Lallu Singh from Ayodhya constituency. Ayodhya, also known as Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency, comprises five Vidhan Sabhas (legislative assemblies): Ayodhya, Bikapur, Milkipur, Rudauli, and Dariyabad (Barabanki).

In the 2019 elections, BJP leader Lallu Singh retained his seat by defeating Samajwadi Party leader Anand Sen Yadav. Singh secured 529,021 votes, while Yadav garnered 463,544 votes.

Ayodhya is scheduled to vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20. The elections are being conducted in seven phases, culminating on June 1, with the counting of votes slated for June 4.
