On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow at the death of Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, calling it a great loss for both the Kingdom and the wider Islamic world.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Deepest condolences on the sad demise of the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Eminence Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al AlSheikh. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kingdom and its people in this moment of grief.”
The Saudi Royal Court confirmed the passing of the Grand Mufti on Tuesday. He earned recognition as a prominent religious authority and headed the Council of Senior Scholars, the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League.
The Court’s statement read, “The Royal Court announced today the passing of Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh.”
According to the Court, the funeral prayers will take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer on Tuesday.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud directed that funeral prayers in absentia also take place at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and all other mosques across the Kingdom.
The statement continued, “Funeral prayer will take place for him at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer today. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has ordered that funeral prayers in absentia also be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom.”
The Royal Court praised Sheikh Al Al-Sheikh’s lifelong service to Islam and Muslims, remarking that his passing marked the loss of a highly respected scholar.
King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their condolences to his family, to the people of Saudi Arabia, and to the global Muslim community.
