Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday, offering his condolences on the loss of his mother, Kashi Bai.
He recognised the deep personal grief that follows the death of a parent and extended his support to the bereaved family.
“A mother’s love and blessings remain a source of strength at every stage of life. Her departure leaves an emptiness in the heart that no one can fill,” PM Modi wrote.
The Prime Minister described a mother’s affection as a lifelong source of emotional strength and her blessings as an invaluable gift. He also wished Chouhan and his family the courage to cope with their loss.
Kashi Bai, aged 76, passed away on Friday morning while undergoing medical treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal. She had reportedly been ill for some time.
The family placed her mortal remains at Chouhan’s residence in Saket Nagar, Bhopal, where relatives, supporters and other visitors gathered to pay their respects. They subsequently took her remains to Jait, her native village in Sehore district, for the final ceremonies.
The family conducted the cremation on Friday evening in accordance with Vedic customs.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar joined the funeral proceedings.
State ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior officials, party members and residents also offered their condolences.
After the cremation, Chouhan planted a sapling in Jait as a tribute to his mother. He hoped the trees would eventually offer shade and shelter to birds, insects and other living beings while helping protect the environment.
