PM Modi Meets Prof Gobardhan Das; Praises Public Health Work

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met noted Prof Gobardhan Das, describing his life journey as motivating and highlighting his contributions to public health and research.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Met Prof. Gobardhan Das Ji this morning. His personal life journey is very inspiring. Every struggle he faced only strengthened his commitment to serve society and make it free from suffering. This has been reflected in his contribution to public health and immunology. His rich work and scholarship will enrich our policy-making architecture.”

NITI Aayog recently appointed Das as a member, where he has outlined plans to contribute to long-term national development.

Following his appointment, he expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister for the opportunity and said he intends to support the goal of building a developed India by 2047.

In his remarks, Das also drew attention to the potential of West Bengal, referring to its historical legacy of intellectual and cultural leadership. He said efforts would address current challenges in sectors such as education and healthcare, which have led many residents to seek opportunities outside the state.

Das emphasised the importance of inclusive growth, noting that balanced development across regions is essential for national progress. He also highlighted India’s response during the Covid-19 pandemic as an example of how coordinated scientific and policy efforts can deliver results.

Looking ahead, Das said his focus at NITI Aayog would include strengthening manufacturing and creating employment opportunities, with the aim of ensuring broader economic participation. He added that sustained and inclusive development would be key to achieving long-term national goals.
