PM Modi Meets Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella To Discuss AI Expansion Plans In India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella on Monday to discuss the tech giant’s expansion and investment plans in India. During their meeting, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm about Microsoft’s ambitious initiatives and the role of AI in the country’s growth.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi shared his thoughts on the meeting, saying, “It was indeed a delight to meet you, @satyanadella! Glad to know about Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India. It was also wonderful discussing various aspects of tech, innovation, and AI in our meeting.”

In response, Satya Nadella thanked PM Modi for his leadership and reaffirmed Microsoft’s commitment to India. “Excited to build on our commitment to making India AI-first and work together on our continued expansion in the country to ensure every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift,” Nadella said.

India’s Role In Microsoft’s AI Vision

Microsoft has been focusing on empowering India’s growing developer community, aiming to help them create products and services not only for India but for global markets. Nadella emphasized that India is pivotal in Microsoft’s strategy, particularly in building AI-powered products on the company’s GitHub platform.

He noted, “India, which is currently second to the US, will have the largest developer community on GitHub by 2027. The country is also second among the top 10 global communities creating the most generative AI projects on GitHub.” Nadella added that 10 percent of India’s $5 trillion economy goal by 2025 will be driven by AI.

Microsoft’s Contribution To AI Skilling In India

As part of its expansion plans, Microsoft aims to provide AI skilling opportunities to 2 million people in India by 2025. This initiative is aligned with India’s growing focus on AI development.

In support of AI growth, the Indian government launched the IndiaAI mission last year to foster AI-related developments. The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, approved over Rs 10,300 crore for the IndiaAI Mission, marking a significant step toward strengthening the AI ecosystem in India.

The collaboration between the Indian government and Microsoft signals a promising future for AI development, positioning India as a global leader in AI innovation and technology.
