PM Modi Meets Delhi CM; Reviews Infrastructure, Pollution Control & Development Priorities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday to deliberate on the capital’s comprehensive development, infrastructural expansion, and governance priorities.

The interaction occurred ahead of the presentation of the Delhi Budget 2025–26 in the Assembly on March 24. Gupta, who also administers the Finance Department, reviewed key policy areas including pollution abatement, women-focused initiatives, and major civic projects planned for the city.

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s counsel, describing his leadership as visionary and consistently supportive of Delhi’s advancement.

She affirmed the government’s resolve to fulfil public aspirations and accelerate progress through effective governance.

The dialogue also addressed urgent environmental concerns, particularly air pollution and traffic congestion.

In a notable administrative decision, the Delhi government approved the clearance of its pending Rs 3,700 crore share for land acquisition linked to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways.

Gupta stated that the move would streamline vehicular movement and significantly reduce pollution by diverting non-destined traffic, especially heavy trucks, away from the city’s core roads.

The expressways aim to alleviate congestion and enhance air quality across the capital.

The Chief Minister criticised the previous administration, alleging that political discord and administrative inertia delayed the project, thereby affecting Delhi’s interests.

Under the approved plan, Rs 500 crore will be released in FY 2025–26 to the Union government or the National Highways Authority of India, while the remaining Rs 3,203.33 crore will be disbursed in phases.
