PM Modi Marks Hindi Diwas; Cites Worldwide Respect For Hindi As Proud Moment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday sent his heartfelt greetings to all Indians on Hindi Diwas, celebrating the growing global respect for Hindi.

He said this recognition fills every citizen with pride and offers inspiration to preserve the nation’s rich linguistic heritage.

Hindi Diwas is observed every year on 14 September to mark the date in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly officially adopted Hindi, in the Devanagari script, as one of India’s official languages.

PM Modi highlighted that while Hindi remains a primary medium of expression, regional languages form an inseparable part of India’s identity.

Taking to social media, PM Modi posted, “Hindi is not merely a medium of communication, but a vibrant heritage of our identity and values.”

He encouraged fellow citizens to pass on regional languages to their descendants, stressing that these languages are equally precious and deserve respect and preservation.

PM Modi further added, “Let us all resolve to enrich Hindi along with all Indian languages and pass them on to coming generations with pride.”

The Prime Minister emphasised that Hindi’s rising prestige on the global stage is not just a celebration of one language, but of India’s multicultural fabric.

Leaders Joining the Tribute

Union Health Minister JP Nadda also extended his wishes on Hindi Diwas, describing Hindi as a unique symbol of Indian culture and a powerful carrier of life, values, and ideals. He emphasised its role during the freedom movement in uniting the nation.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar likewise called Hindi a binding force across the country, noting how it contributes significantly to national unity. He stated that in Bihar, Hindi is the official language for government work, asking citizens to adopt Hindi in their work and daily life with pride and respect.

Historians point out that adopting Hindi as the official language was a foundational decision for the newly independent Indian nation.

While India recognises many languages, Hindi Diwas reminds citizens of their shared heritage and values, bridging regional differences.

The day also inspires reflection on language policy and usage, education in mother tongues, and the importance of respecting each language’s place in India’s plural society.

PM Modi’s message underlined that true respect for Hindi does not mean ignoring or diminishing regional languages, but embracing all as threads in the fabric of national unity.

PM Modi’s celebrations of Hindi Diwas this year reaffirmed that Hindi’s growing global stature can be a source of national pride.

It also posed a reminder: preserving languages, promoting multilingualism, and valuing linguistic diversity are vital for a cohesive and culturally rich India.
