Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme at the Parade Ground in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat’s Narmada district, on Saturday.
The event commemorated the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The celebrations featured the Ekta Parade, with personnel from state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and central police organisations.
The programme showcased their contribution to national security and operations against Left-Wing Extremism.
The parade brought together 16 marching contingents from nine states and one Union Territory, four CAPFs, the National Cadet Corps and a marching band.
Major attractions included the National Security Guard’s ‘Hell March’, motorcycle stunts by BSF and CRPF personnel, and an Indian martial arts presentation by the BSF.
Schoolchildren performed with a piped band, while the Indian Air Force presented a ‘Surya Kiran’ flypast.
PM Modi was also scheduled to administer the National Unity Pledge.
This year’s event placed special focus on the government’s stated efforts to eliminate armed Naxalism.
The Union Home Ministry said the parade would recognise police and CAPF personnel involved in operations against Left-Wing Extremism.
A theatrical presentation titled ‘Naxal Mukt Bharat’, organised by the National School of Drama, brought together around 2,000 artistes from 126 districts.
It portrayed the challenges faced by communities affected by Naxalism and their transition towards peace and development.
Around 5,000 residents from these districts were invited. Another 5,000 performers presented regional traditions under the theme ‘Vande Mataram’, marking 150 years of the national song. The tableaux also featured designs submitted by citizens through competitions.
Earlier, PM Modi paid floral tributes to Patel at the Statue of Unity near the Sardar Sarovar Dam. He also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 31 tourism and infrastructure projects worth ₹426.71 crore.
