PM Modi, Leaders Mourn Tragic Loss Of Devotees In Deoghar Road Crash

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 5 Kanwariyas in a tragic road accident near Jamuniya village in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Tuesday. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The incident occurred during the Shravani Mela, a religious period when large numbers of devotees journey to offer sacred water at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple.

A truck transporting gas cylinders crashed head-on into a bus carrying around 35 pilgrims, causing a devastating collision.

In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi called the accident ‘extremely tragic’ and posted, “The road accident that occurred in Deoghar, Jharkhand, is extremely tragic. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the devotees who lost their lives in this incident. May God grant them the strength to bear this pain. Along with this, I pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also conveyed his condolences, noting, “This morning, extremely sad news was received about the death of devotees travelling in a bus accident near Jamuniya Chowk in the Mohanpur block of Deoghar.”

He confirmed that the district administration had launched immediate rescue and medical efforts for the injured.

“May Baba Baidyanath grant peace to the souls of the devotees who died in the accident and give strength to the grieving families to bear this hour of sorrow,” the CM further added.

Confirming the incident, Deoghar MP Nishikant Dubey posted, “In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan, 18 devotees lost their lives due to a bus and truck accident. May Baba Baidyanath Ji grant strength to their families to bear this grief.”

Accident Site and Rescue Operations

The accident site lies near the banks of the Jamuniya River, close to a well-known Shiva-Parvati temple.

Witnesses, however, described the aftermath as harrowing, with the bus torn apart and many passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

Police, ambulance services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a coordinated rescue operation to recover the injured and retrieve the bodies.

Several victims were taken to nearby health centres and Deoghar Sadar Hospital, with officials confirming that some remain in critical condition.

Authorities are, however, working to confirm the identities of the deceased. Post-mortem examinations are underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
