Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled and initiated several development initiatives worth close to Rs 19,500 crore at a public event in Guwahati.
The Prime Minister greeted the people of Assam and acknowledged farmers from different parts of the country who joined the programme while addressing the gathering. He further extended his appreciation to workers engaged in the tea gardens of the region.
“I have been blessed with the fortune of having your darshan on this pious land of Maa Kamakhya, just before Navratri begins,” he stated.
PM Modi noted that the government launched the projects during the event with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya and that they will significantly contribute to Assam’s development. He further explained that the initiatives include projects designed to strengthen the state’s energy sector and improve connectivity for travellers visiting Assam.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the state is making an important contribution to India’s broader renewable energy goals. He also referred to the Lower Kopili Hydro Power Project, saying it would provide benefits not only to Assam but to the wider northeastern region.
According to the Prime Minister, “These projects worth thousands of crores are creating new avenues of employment for Assam’s youth and are boosting the state’s prosperity.”
He added that the present government prioritises balanced development and delivers effective governance across every region and community.
PM Modi also highlighted initiatives aimed at improving the lives of tea garden labourers in Assam. He remarked that their dedication has helped Assam’s tea earn recognition across the world.
The Prime Minister also praised Himanta Biswa Sarma and his administration for undertaking measures to support families associated with the tea industry.
The government, he said, is working to address long-standing issues faced by these communities by granting land ownership and enabling families to build permanent homes.
PM Modi added that these efforts would particularly benefit women and help ensure better education and opportunities for children belonging to tea garden worker families.
