PM Modi, Japan PM Sanae Takaichi Pitch Technology As New Pillar Of Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said technology collaboration will become the strongest pillar of India-Japan relations. He expressed confidence that the partnership between the two countries will continue to deepen in the coming years.

Following his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi, PM Modi posted on X, “It is wonderful to meet Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Delhi. Japan is an important partner of India and we are confident that our ties will get even stronger in the times to come. Our talks today covered the full range of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The key issues discussed include technology, innovation, AI, defence and security, pharmaceuticals and more. As far as economic linkages are concerned, our goal is clear…in the next ten years, 10 trillion Yen of Japanese investment into India and doubling the number of Japanese companies in India!”

In a separate post, PM Modi added, “Prime Minister Takaichi and I believe that technology partnership will become the strongest pillar of our cooperation. To realise this vision, we have today issued a Joint Statement in the field of AI. Several leading institutions of India’s AI ecosystem have also signed agreements with their Japanese partners today. We also discussed linkages in energy, people-to-people ties and cooperation in education.”

Prime Minister Takaichi described India as an important partner in achieving a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). She said on X that both countries would contribute to the prosperity of the Indo-Pacific and the wider international community.

PM Takaichi added that India and Japan would continue strengthening their partnership. She said the two countries would mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

The Japanese PM further said her evolved FOIP vision shares the same objective as Prime Minister Modi’s MAHASAGAR initiative.

Both aim to promote a free, prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific.
