PM Modi, Japan PM Inaugurate Maruti Suzuki’s ₹35,000 Crore Kharkhoda Plant In Haryana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Thursday jointly inaugurated Maruti Suzuki India’s state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana through video conferencing during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in New Delhi.

The manufacturing complex spans 800 acres and includes a dedicated supplier park. It will become one of the world’s largest automobile production facilities after full expansion.

The company commenced operations with an annual production capacity of five lakh vehicles and plans to double it to 10 lakh units during the next phase.

Maruti Suzuki will invest Rs 35,000 crore in the project, which is expected to create more than 21,000 employment opportunities upon completion.

Suzuki built the Kharkhoda plant on its Smart Factory concept, using Industry 5.0 technology to improve safety, quality and efficiency.

The plant also incorporates sustainable infrastructure, including solar energy, biogas systems, battery energy storage and green power procurement.

Maruti Suzuki will meet the facility’s entire electricity requirement through renewable energy sources.

The inauguration marks another milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s four-decade journey in India. It also strengthens the strategic economic partnership between India and Japan.

Once fully operational, the facility will significantly contribute to the company’s target of achieving an annual production capacity of four million vehicles.

Suzuki Group President Toshihiro Suzuki described the project as a landmark achievement for the company. He said the expansion to one million vehicles annually would make Kharkhoda one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing facilities.

Toshihiro Suzuki added that the project reflects the success of the Make in India initiative and the India-Japan partnership. Suzuki also continues to expand investments, employment, exports and technology development in India. He said Maruti Suzuki manufactures the eVitara exclusively in Gujarat for export to 100 countries.
