PM Modi: India Emerging As A Global Leader In Science & Innovation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is setting new global benchmarks in science and innovation, underscoring the nation’s growing confidence and self-reliance.

He credited India’s achievements in areas ranging from Digital India to Deep Tech and Chandrayaan to the bioeconomy as evidence of a transformative decade under a science-driven vision.

Sharing a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “India is setting the record straight, from Digital India to Deep Tech, from Chandrayaan to bioeconomy and so much more! With the efforts of us all, our country is redefining global leadership in science and innovation, and a confident Aatmanirbhar Bharat is now inspiring the world.”

The statement coincided with an article shared by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, which traced India’s remarkable progress in science, technology, and innovation over the past decade.

India’s Decade of Scientific Transformation

Dr Singh’s article outlined how India’s advancements in space technology, biotechnology, and digital innovation have positioned it among global leaders in research and development.

He attributed this progress to policy-driven initiatives, government support, and a renewed focus on integrating science with societal growth.

The Union Minister highlighted that India’s scientific reforms have not only expanded research capacity but also created new opportunities in high-value sectors, reinforcing science and technology as the backbone of economic development.

Dr Jitendra Singh, speaking at a CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST) event in Assam on 30 October, emphasised the region’s potential to contribute significantly to India’s bioeconomy.

He noted that the Northeast’s rich biodiversity and unique agro-climatic conditions could enable the growth of high-value plant-based industries.

He stressed the importance of blending modern science with traditional knowledge through projects such as the CSIR-Aroma Mission and CSIR-Floriculture Mission.

These initiatives, he said, are empowering farmers and entrepreneurs—particularly women and youth—by promoting aromatic and floricultural crop cultivation.

Empowering Rural Livelihoods through Science

Dr Singh also cited the ‘Purple Revolution’ in Jammu and Kashmir as a prime example of how science-led interventions can transform rural livelihoods.

The lavender cultivation initiative has generated significant employment, especially for women, while contributing to India’s fragrance and essential oils market.

Encouraging the Northeastern states to adopt similar models, Dr Singh said that replicating such science-based projects could make the region a key contributor to India’s aroma and floriculture economy.

Prime Minister Modi’s remarks and Dr Singh’s insights align with India’s broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat—a self-reliant nation driven by innovation, technology, and inclusive growth.

With sustained investment in scientific infrastructure and policy support, India continues to inspire the world as a global hub of innovation and discovery.
