Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Thursday.
PM Modi landed at 4:30 PM and went straight to the new terminal for the ceremony.
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar welcomed him. Cabinet ministers from both the state and Central governments also joined the event.
The government built the Patna airport terminal at a cost of ₹1,400 crore. It covers 65,155 square metres and includes modern features.
The terminal has 54 check-in counters, five aerobridges, eight X-ray baggage scanners, and five luggage belts. It also offers a multi-level parking area, a VIP lounge, and a cafeteria.
The airport’s daily passenger capacity will rise to 4,500. Its annual handling limit will increase from 25 lakh to 1 crore.
Officials expect the number of daily flights to grow from 34 to 75. This will ease travel pressure and improve the passenger experience.
Meanwhile, PM Modi laid the foundation for projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in Karakat. These include a new airport at Bihta, around 35 kilometres from Patna.
The Bihta airport will spread across 116 acres. The terminal will cover 68,000 square metres. It will handle 3,000 passengers per hour and up to 50 lakh per year.
After the ceremonies, PM Modi held a roadshow to the BJP office on Veer Chand Patel Path. The route passed through Sheikhpura Mor and the Income Tax roundabout.
People gathered in large numbers to see the Prime Minister. BJP workers displayed cut-outs of Operation Sindoor and the BrahMos missile during the roadshow.
At the BJP office, PM Modi met party leaders. He then moved to Raj Bhavan for an overnight stay.
On Friday, he will visit Bikramganj in Rohtas district. There, he will address a massive rally.
Notably, this is his first visit to Bihar since the launch of Operation Sindoor. He has visited the state four times this year.
