Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated NAMO Hospital to the nation in Daman, significantly enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the Union Territory and surrounding areas.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the facility during his visit to Daman, where he is launching several development projects spanning healthcare, connectivity, tourism and public infrastructure.
NAMO Hospital aims to improve access to specialised medical treatment for residents of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The facility will also serve patients from neighbouring districts in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Officials described the hospital as part of a wider strategy to strengthen advanced healthcare services across the region.
The project builds upon recent investments in medical infrastructure undertaken by the Union Territory administration.
Earlier phases of the initiative included the establishment of the NAMO Hospital and Research Centre in Silvassa.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated that facility in 2025 as part of a broader healthcare expansion programme.
Authorities stated that the larger NAMO healthcare initiative is being developed as a comprehensive medical ecosystem.
The network will incorporate teaching, research and specialised treatment facilities to meet growing healthcare demands.
The initiative includes a substantial expansion of bed capacity. It also adds advanced medical infrastructure to meet future healthcare needs.
The inauguration comes as the government increases investment in public healthcare facilities, particularly in smaller states and Union Territories.
These regions have traditionally depended on larger urban centres for specialised treatment and advanced medical services.
Healthcare remained a key component of the development package unveiled during the Prime Minister’s visit.
Official information released ahead of the programme stated that projects worth nearly Rs 1,340 crore were inaugurated in Daman. These projects included NAMO Hospital and the new terminal building at NAMO Airport.
Officials said the hospital would reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment. They added that the facility would strengthen local healthcare delivery and improve access to specialised medical services for thousands of families across the region.
