Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday to attend the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) campaign rally held at Panchapoor in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchi district.
Before addressing the gathering, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development initiatives in the state valued at Rs 5,650 crore.
Among the key announcements was the foundation stone for a natural gas distribution project worth Rs 3,680 crore. The project will provide piped cooking gas connections to nearly nine lakh households in the region.
It will also supply gas to about 200 commercial establishments and set up 201 natural gas stations. The initiative is expected to improve energy efficiency while helping reduce environmental pollution.
The Prime Minister also dedicated a lubricant blending plant valued at Rs 1,490 crore to the nation. The facility belongs to the Indian Oil Corporation and is located in Manali, Chennai.
This project is expected to strengthen petroleum infrastructure and improve production capacity in the state.
During the event, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a green bypass road near the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple. The proposed road is expected to enhance connectivity and encourage tourism to the renowned Chola-era monument.
In the railway sector, the Prime Minister flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains along with two express trains and one passenger train service. These train services will strengthen connectivity between southern Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country.
The improved rail network is expected to benefit passengers and boost regional mobility.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated 370 kilometres of rural roads developed under the Central government’s rural development programme. These roads will help farmers, students and patients reach markets, schools and healthcare facilities more easily.
While addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the newly launched projects would help strengthen Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure and create employment opportunities.
He stated that the initiatives are expected to generate jobs for nearly 1,000 young people in the state.
The Prime Minister also referred to his earlier visit during the celebrations marking the 1,000th anniversary of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple. He said the new highway project would significantly support tourism in the region.
PM Modi emphasised that the progress of Tamil Nadu is crucial for achieving the vision of a developed India. He also reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting the state’s growth and development.
