PM Modi Inaugurates 184 Sustainable Multi-Storey Flats For MPs In Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in the capital, emphasising sustainability, inclusivity, and balanced development for all sections of society.

The inauguration ceremony, held at 9:00 AM, was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

As part of the event, the Prime Minister planted a Sindoor (vermilion) sapling in the residential premises and interacted with the labourers (Shramjeevis) who contributed to the construction.

PM Modi later delivered a keynote address.

Highlighting the dual approach of development, PM Modi stated, “The India of the 21st century is as eager to become viksit (developed) as it is sensitive. Today, when the country builds new residences for its parliamentarians, it also celebrates grah pravesh for the poor through the PM Awas Yojana.”

The Prime Minister noted that, alongside constructing MP flats, the country is developing hundreds of medical colleges and delivering piped water to millions, ensuring benefits reach every community.

Sustainable & Inclusive Design

Built with a focus on eco-friendliness, the housing complex features green technologies, renewable energy systems, and efficient waste management. It adheres to the GRIHA 3-star rating standards and the National Building Code (NBC) 2016.

Each flat spans approximately 5,000 square feet, with facilities for both residential and official work, including five rooms, two guest rooms, two servant rooms, and dedicated office space.

The buildings are earthquake-resistant, fitted with advanced security systems, and designed to be Divyang-friendly.

PM Modi praised the sustainable approach, describing the flats as ‘pro-environment and pro-future safe initiatives’.

Calling on MPs to use the complex as a hub for cultural integration, PM Modi urged them to celebrate regional festivals and teach each other languages and dialects.

He also suggested cleanliness competitions between housing complexes to set an example for the nation.

“Our efforts should become a role model,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the project aimed to address a shortage of MP housing in Delhi. With limited land, planners chose vertical housing to optimise use and reduce maintenance costs.

Concluding his address, PM Modi remarked with a smile, “These flats are so spacious, I don’t think you will be able to fill up all the rooms. I hope they serve you well in both your personal and professional life.”
