PM Modi Honours Chandra Shekhar On 100th Birth Anniversary Year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar on the occasion marking the beginning of his 100th birth anniversary year.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi described him as a mass leader who embodied courage, conviction, and a deep commitment to democratic ideals.

The Prime Minister noted that the milestone year offers an opportunity to renew dedication towards realising Chandra Shekhar’s vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and just India.

PM Modi highlighted how the late leader remained firmly rooted in the soil of the nation, demonstrating sensitivity to the hopes and struggles of ordinary citizens while bringing clarity and simplicity to public life.

Recalling his personal interactions, PM Modi spoke of meaningful exchanges with Chandra Shekhar on national development, emphasising the value of his insights and experience. He also encouraged young people to learn more about the former Prime Minister’s life, ideas, and contributions to India’s progress.

Born on April 17, 1927, in Ibrahimpatti village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, Chandra Shekhar rose from humble beginnings in a farmer’s family to become a prominent figure in Indian politics. He entered public life as a student, later joining the Socialist movement under Acharya Narendra Dev.

Chandra Shekhar led the Janata Party, championed the underprivileged, and criticised inequality. Arrested during the Emergency, he upheld democratic values.

His Bharat Yatra connected him with citizens nationwide, and his legacy of integrity and dedication continues to inspire.
