PM Modi, HM Shah Speak To CM Fadnavis After Fatal Plane Crash In Baramati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take stock of the situation following a devastating plane crash near Baramati that claimed the lives of Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar and five others.

According to Maharashtra government officials, officials briefed the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on the circumstances of the accident and the latest developments at the crash site.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that all six passengers on board the aircraft died in the incident.

The plane crashed during the landing phase near Baramati around 9 AM, roughly an hour after it took off from Mumbai.

Visuals from the site showed thick smoke and mangled wreckage as ambulances and emergency teams rushed in.

Local residents were among the first to reach the crash site to assist rescue efforts.

Ajit Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati for a public meeting during the ongoing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, after which his family rushed to the site.

His wife and party MP Sunetra Pawar, son Parth Pawar, and cousin and NCP-SP working president Supriya Sule were reportedly preparing to travel from Delhi.

Emergency services and senior security officials immediately responded after the aircraft reportedly lost control during landing.

Authorities shifted three bodies to Baramati Medical College, where officials have begun the identification process, the Pune Superintendent of Police said.

A DGCA investigation team has reached the crash site and is examining the cause of the accident. Authorities said more details are awaited as rescue and investigative operations continue.
