PM Modi Highlights Growing Global Presence Of Indian Culture; Lauds Diaspora’s Role

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Indian culture and festivals are steadily gaining a global footprint, asserting that the Indian diaspora plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural essence across the world.

Addressing the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister noted that Indian festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm in many countries, reflecting the vibrancy of Bharat’s cultural traditions.

PM Modi said that people of Indian origin, wherever they reside, continue to uphold and nurture their cultural roots, thereby strengthening India’s soft power globally.

He highlighted Malaysia as a prominent example of this cultural connect, praising the Indian community there for its commitment to preserving Indian languages, traditions and heritage.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Malaysia operates over 500 Tamil schools and also promotes Telugu, Punjabi and other Indian languages, showcasing the Indian community’s deep cultural integration.

He also praised the Malaysia-India Heritage Society for strengthening historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

He noted that the organisation conducts heritage walks that showcase cultural sites linking India and Malaysia, helping people understand their shared history.

Referring to a recent cultural event, the Prime Minister mentioned the ‘Lal Paad Saree’ iconic walk organised in Malaysia, which set a record in the Malaysian Book of Records for the largest gathering of people wearing the traditional Bengali saree.

He further said the event, which also featured Odissi dance and Baul music, captivated audiences and celebrated India’s diverse cultural traditions.

Expressing pride in the Indian community abroad, PM Modi said the diaspora in Malaysia is bringing the two countries closer and extended his best wishes to them for continuing to strengthen India’s cultural legacy worldwide.
