PM Modi Hails Youth For Blending Bhakti With Modern Culture Through Bhajan Clubbing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Gen Z-led ‘bhajan clubbing’ trend, saying it was heartening to see young people embracing devotion while preserving the dignity and purity of traditional bhajans.

He said the trend reflects how India’s cultural and spiritual values continue to evolve without losing their essence.

Speaking in the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi noted that bhajans and kirtans have formed the soul of India’s cultural life for centuries.

“We have heard bhajans in temples and kathas, and every era has expressed Bhakti in its own way,” he said.

Highlighting the creativity of today’s youth, the Prime Minister said the younger generation has incorporated devotion into its lifestyle, giving rise to new cultural expressions.

Referring to videos widely shared on social media, he described how large groups of young people gather in cities for events that resemble concerts, complete with lighting, music and stage décor.

PM Modi said the events resemble grand concerts, yet resonate with bhajans sung with complete concentration, dedication and rhythm, a phenomenon now known as ‘bhajan clubbing’ that is gaining popularity, especially among Gen Z.

He commended the youth for maintaining decorum in words, emotions and presentation, and stressed that participants treat devotion with seriousness while preserving the sanctity of bhajans.

“The platform may be modern and the musical presentation different, but the core spirit remains the same. A continuous flow of spirituality is felt,” he said.

The Prime Minister said such initiatives demonstrate how India’s timeless traditions continue to thrive by adapting to contemporary forms, ensuring that spirituality remains relevant and meaningful for future generations.
