Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Lockheed Martin for its significant contributions to India’s defense sector, reflecting the company’s alignment with the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ initiative.
In a meeting on Thursday, Jim Taiclet, CEO of Lockheed Martin, discussed the company’s ongoing projects and future plans with the Prime Minister.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister’s Office posted, “CEO of @LockheedMartin, Jim Taiclet met Prime Minister @narendramodi. Lockheed Martin is a key partner in India-US Aerospace and Defence Industrial cooperation. We welcome it’s commitment towards realising the vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’.”
Lockheed Martin has played a pivotal role in enhancing India’s defense capabilities, supplying advanced technologies across various sectors, including aerospace, naval systems, missile defense, and strategic operations.
The company’s joint venture with Tata Advanced Systems Limited in Hyderabad focuses on the production of C-130J empennages, with over 200 units delivered to date.
This initiative however underscores Lockheed Martin’s commitment to increasing local component sourcing and supporting India’s defense manufacturing sector.
Additionally, Lockheed Martin has transferred its helicopter cabin manufacturing operations from Japan to India, further strengthening the country’s defense production capabilities.
The C-130J transport aircraft, a critical asset for the Indian Air Force, exemplifies the strategic importance of this partnership.
Meanwhile, this collaboration not only enhances India’s defense infrastructure but also exemplifies the broader goals of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aiming to position India as a global leader in defense manufacturing.
