Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team after they lifted the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup title in Colombo.
The team delivered an outstanding campaign, remaining unbeaten from start to finish and showcasing remarkable skill, resilience, and unity on the global stage.
PM Modi described the team’s success as ‘a historic sporting achievement’ and commended every player for her hard work and perseverance.
Posting on X, he celebrated their flawless run in the tournament, noting that the victory would inspire generations and elevate the profile of blind cricket in India and beyond.
His message highlighted the significance of their triumph, calling it a shining example of teamwork and determination.
India sealed the title with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Nepal. After electing to field, the Indian side restricted Nepal to 114 for 5 in 20 overs through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.
The chase was exceptionally efficient, with India reaching the target in just 12.1 overs and with 47 balls to spare.
Khula Sharir delivered a standout performance, scoring an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls, including four boundaries, and steering the team confidently to victory.
India’s journey to the title reflected total dominance. In the group stage, they beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, Australia by an extraordinary 209 runs, Nepal by 85 runs, the United States by 10 wickets, and Pakistan by eight wickets.
Their semi-final win over Australia was equally emphatic, securing a nine-wicket victory to book their place in the final.
Nepal, meanwhile, advanced to the final after edging past Pakistan in a closely fought semi-final, but they were unable to stop India’s unstoppable momentum in the title clash.
India’s triumph not only underscores its superior performance but also marks a major milestone in the growth of blind cricket.
The victory places the team firmly on the international map and is expected to bring greater recognition, support, and development opportunities for the sport in the coming years.
