Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called the agreements a landmark achievement in India-UK relations and credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for bringing them into force. He said the trade pact would grant zero-duty access to nearly 99 per cent of India’s exports, covering almost the entire value of bilateral trade.
Goyal added that industries such as textiles, leather, engineering goods, gems and jewellery, marine products, chemicals and processed food are expected to benefit substantially. He also said the agreements would create fresh opportunities for India’s IT, financial, education and business services sectors while supporting stronger long-term trade and investment ties between India and the United Kingdom.
