Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended actor Ram Charan, his wife Upasana, and Archery Premier League (APL) Chairman Anil Kamineni for their combined efforts to popularise archery in India.
PM Modi noted that their initiatives would benefit numerous young sports enthusiasts and help India regain prominence in this ancient discipline.
The meeting took place in New Delhi, where Ram Charan and the APL leadership presented a symbolic bow to the Prime Minister to mark the successful completion of the first season of the league.
PM Modi, responding on his X account, wrote, “Glad to have met you, Upasana and Anil Kamineni Garu. Your collective efforts to popularise archery are commendable and will benefit countless youngsters.”
The Archery Premier League, founded under Anil Kamineni’s leadership, aims to rejuvenate archery in India.
Its mission is threefold: provide world-class training, offer competitive platforms, and secure international recognition for Indian archers.
However, the league serves as a bridge between India’s rich archery heritage and global sporting standards.
Ram Charan, while expressing pride in the league’s vision, said, “Archery is an important part of our cultural heritage. Our ambition is to bring it back to global recognition through the APL. India has amazing talent, and this platform will help take them to the international stage.”
Accompanying Ram Charan was his wife, Upasana Kamineni Konidela, who presented Prime Minister Modi with a Balaji idol and a traditional puja kit on behalf of Ram Charan’s parents, Chiranjeevi and Surekha.
The gesture further underscored the cultural and familial significance of supporting traditional sports in India.
The Prime Minister’s encouragement will help the APL attract more young athletes and gain international attention.
The initiative also aligns with broader government efforts to promote indigenous sports, enhance youth engagement, and build pathways for Indian athletes to excel globally.
PM Modi’s recognition of Ram Charan and the APL leadership highlights the growing importance of cultural sports in India.
Furthermore, by combining heritage, training, and competitive exposure, the league aims to create a strong foundation for archery, providing opportunities for countless youngsters and positioning India as a global hub for the sport.
