PM Modi Greets Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann On Birthday; Prays For Long Life

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended birthday greetings to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, wishing him a long and healthy life.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Birthday greetings to Punjab Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Mann Ji. Praying for his long and healthy life.”

Born in 1973 in Satoj village in Sangrur district, Mann comes from a family of schoolteachers. He graduated in Commerce from Shaheed Udham Singh Government College in 1992. He gained early popularity at 18 after releasing an audio cassette that attracted audiences.

Mann rose to fame through television shows such as Jugnu Kehnda Hai and Jugnu Mast Mast. His political and social satire earned him widespread recognition, particularly after he appeared on Star Plus’s The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2008. He also acted in the National Award-winning film Main Maa Punjab Dee.

Mann entered politics by joining the People’s Party of Punjab, founded by Manpreet Singh Badal. He contested his first Assembly election in 2012 from Lehra constituency against former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.

After the party merged with Congress, Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the invitation of its national convener, Arvind Kejriwal. In 2014, he won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, defeating senior Akali leader S.S. Dhindsa.

Mann became AAP’s most prominent face in Punjab by 2017. He resigned as the party’s state president in 2018 after Kejriwal apologised to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a defamation case. Mann returned to the post a year later.

He retained the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in 2019 and remained AAP’s sole MP from Punjab. On March 16, 2022, Mann took the oath as Punjab Chief Minister after winning the Dhuri Assembly seat by a margin of more than 58,000 votes.
