PM Modi Greets Maharashtra; Leaders Pay Tribute To State’s Legacy

On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the people of the state, recognising its courage, glorious past, and critical role in India’s progress.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Maharashtra Day greetings to the people of the state, which has always played a vital role in India’s development. When one thinks of Maharashtra, its glorious history and the courage of the people come to our mind. The state remains a strong pillar of progress and at the same time has remained connected to its roots. My best wishes for the state’s progress.”

Amit Shah’s Message

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings to the people of Maharashtra through a heartfelt post on social media platform X.

He praised the state’s rich cultural and historical contributions to India.

Shah wrote, “Warm wishes on Maharashtra Day to the people of Maharashtra, the holy land of cultural renaissance. Be it the resolve to protect one’s own religion, folk art, development of agricultural culture or economic prosperity of the country, Maharashtra has played a remarkable role in the history of the country. My brothers and sisters from Maharashtra are famous for their unwavering love and hard work. On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, I wish the people of the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continuous progress and prosperity.”

Shah’s message highlighted the state’s enduring legacy and saluted the spirit of its people, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to Maharashtra’s continuous development.

Tributes To The Samyukta Maharashtra Movement

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid floral tribute at Mumbai’s Hutatma Chowk to honour the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, which played a key role in establishing a separate Marathi-speaking state with Bombay as its capital.

Speaking at the event, Fadnavis emphasised Maharashtra’s identity as India’s most progressive state, deeply inspired by the legacies of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr BR Ambedkar.

He also announced that a new 100-day development initiative would soon be launched to accelerate the state’s progress towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy.

Ceremonies Across The State

In Pune, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar unfurled the national flag at the City Police Headquarters Parade Ground, commemorating the day with patriotic fervour.

Simultaneously, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais led the celebrations in Mumbai, also unfurling the national flag and paying homage to the sacrifices made for the state’s creation.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took part in a similar ceremony at Saket Maidan in Thane, where he too honoured the memory of those who laid down their lives during the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.

Legacy Of The Movement

The movement, spearheaded by the Samyukta Maharashtra Parishad- later succeeded by the Samyukta Maharashtra Samithi- was launched to demand a distinct state for Marathi-speaking people.

Founded under the leadership of Keshavrao Jedhe in 1955, the campaign eventually led to the creation of the state of Maharashtra on 1 May 1960, following the Bombay Reorganisation Act.

As Maharashtra marks another year of statehood, its leaders have reiterated their commitment to development, inclusive growth, and preserving the cultural and historical essence that continues to define the state’s vibrant identity.
