PM Modi Greets ITBP On Raising Day; Praises Personnel’s Exceptional Valour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Raising Day greetings to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel on Friday, praising their exceptional valour, determination and sacrifices in service to the nation.

In a post on X, Modi said the force’s personnel, known as Himveers, had demonstrated remarkable courage and risen to every challenge. He added that their selfless service continued to inspire the nation.

The ITBP, raised on October 24, 1962, guards the 3,488-km India-China border, stretching from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.

The force marked its 65th Raising Day by reaffirming its commitment to national service.

In a post on X, the ITBP extended greetings to its Himveers, Himveeranganas and their families.

The force reiterated its motto, “Shaurya, Dridhta, Karmanishtha” (Valour, Steadfastness, Dedication), and pledged to remain devoted to the nation.

According to the Union Home Ministry, most ITBP border outposts lie at altitudes between 9,000 feet and 18,800 feet. Personnel endure temperatures as low as minus 45 degrees Celsius during extreme winters.

The specialised armed police force trains personnel in mountaineering, skiing and tactical operations. It also performs internal security duties and conducts operations against Left-Wing Extremism in Chhattisgarh.

The ITBP serves as a first responder during natural disasters across the Himalayan region. Over the years, its personnel have carried out hundreds of search, rescue and relief operations to assist people affected by calamities.
