Observed every year on 1 July, Chartered Accountants’ Day commemorates the establishment of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in 1949.

The day recognises the invaluable contribution of Chartered Accountants in maintaining financial transparency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable business growth. Their responsibilities extend beyond auditing and taxation to include financial planning, risk management, business advisory services, and corporate governance.

The relevance of the profession has grown further in 2026 as India’s financial landscape continues to evolve through digital transformation, automation, GST reforms, and deeper integration with global markets.

Chartered Accountants continue to support businesses while upholding high standards of integrity and accountability.

Established on 1 July 1949, the ICAI is India’s statutory accounting body and the world’s second-largest professional accounting organisation, representing over 2.5 lakh members.

Chartered Accountants’ Day, also known as ICAI Foundation Day, celebrates the institution’s legacy and the vital role Chartered Accountants play in strengthening India’s financial system and economic growth.
